Consultation Process
In November 2023, we sought community feedback on the draft master plan for the Yackandandah Sports Park.
Why did we consult?
In late 2021, we were fortunate to secure $30,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s2021/22 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund Planning stream to develop a master plan for the Yackandandah Sports Park as well as Rutherglen’s Barkly Park, Coulston Park and the Allans Flat Waterhole. Council also contributed $40,000.

The draft plan was developed following extensive research to understand how the Yackandandah Sports Park is being used by the community and to identify gaps in infrastructure and stakeholder engagement with key user groups and governing bodies, including:
Yackandandah Sports Park Committee of Management
Yackandandah Cricket Club
Yackandandah Riding Club
Yackandandah Cricket Club
Yackandandah Soccer Club
Yackandandah Scouts
Yack Mountain Bike Club (Yack Tracks)
State sporting associations
Regional sporting associations
The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DECCA)
Following this process, we invited broader community input to ensure the draft plan represented the community's vision for future of the site.
What did we find out?
We received 60 survey responses, with 90% supportive of the overall proposed changes in the master plan. Respondents indicated they were most supportive of amenity improvements and this was also reflected on the ideas board, with this suggestion receiving nine votes.
The proposed idea of a bike hub and the development of a pump track were also strongly supported.
What happens next?
This master plan was placed on exhibition for final comment in January 2024. There were no submissions made during this time and as result, the master plan was adopted by Council at its February 2024 meeting.
