About this project

We're developing and constructing a new asphalt pump track located on the Wahgunyah Railway Land.

Why is this project being undertaken?

A key vision from the Wahgunyah Railway Land Master Plan (2019) was the development of a pump track as a priority project for the community.

A pump track offers the opportunity for active and passive recreation spaces with the benefit of linking these spaces to the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail from Rutherglen to Wahgunyah

What is happening and when?

Council awarded the contract for design and construction of the pump track to Common Ground Trails Pty Ltd at its October 2023 meeting, with the project scheduled to be completed in July 2024.

However, before we start construction, we want to check in with the community once more to ensure that the designs meet your expectations.

Have your say on the design concepts

In early 2024, we sought feedback on the draft concept designs. While there were limitations on changes to the design layout, we wanted to hear the community's overall thoughts on the concepts and if there was anything we'd missed or should consider.

Additional features such as toilets and pathways etc were not part of this scope of works, however could be considered in future grant applications and capital works programs.

What we heard

Feedback gathered during the engagement phase was overall very supportive of the concept plans.

We’ve noted any ideas outside the scope of this project, such as water bubblers, toilets and pathways for consideration through Council’s annual budget process.

How is it being funded?

Following a successful funding application through Sport and Recreation Victoria’s 2022 Local Sport Infrastructure Fund Community Facilities Stream, we commenced working with the Wahgunyah community to determine the best location for the track and how to ensure the design is inclusive and accessible for all skill levels and users.

Funding ContributorAmount
Sport and Recreation Victoria$150,000
Indigo Shire Council$150,000
TOTAL$300,000

Shade

Council will invest an additional $60,000 towards the installation of small shade structures at the ‘muster/start area’ of the tracks as well as install larger shade sails at both sites.
