About this project

We upgraded the Chiltern Tennis Courts to Tennis Victoria standards, with new surfaces on Courts one and two. We also installed new LED lighting, fencing and run offs.

Why was this project undertaken and how was it funded?

The upgrade was funded through Sport and Recreation Victoria’s 2022 Local Sport Infrastructure Fund Community Facilities Stream, with contributions from Council and the Chiltern Tennis Club. The facilities have been brought up to Tennis Victoria standards for competition to encourage more participation by offering safer and improved playing conditions.

Funding ContributorAmount
Sport and Recreation Victoria$300,000
Indigo Shire Council$166,213
Chiltern Tennis Club$10,000
TOTAL$476,213

Scope of works

Works included demolition of the existing two courts and construction of two new tennis courts on a similar footprint on a concrete base with acrylic surfacing to Tennis Australia compliant measurements, enclosed within 3.6m high four-chain mesh fencing, improved drainage and a preventative tree root barrier. Lighting specifications at 350 Lux for club competition with low level LED lights on 12m high poles.

What happened and when?

Council awarded the contract for the design and construction of the tennis courts, lighting, fencing, drainage and all other associated works to iDwala Pty Ltd at its August 2023 meeting. Site works commenced in late 2023 and were completed by May 2024.
