What is a Community Emergency Management Plan?
A Community Emergency Management Plan (CEMP) is a guide to help people plan for emergencies common to the locality. It belongs to the community and should be a living document that the community feed into as the climate changes our response to planning, and to the severity of emergencies.
It provides information on how emergencies are managed in that town and how you can best prepare for your safety, response, and recovery.
Every individual and family must make their own response plan - this document is not that. You must decide your own trigger points for action to ensure your survival. The plan provides links to emergency planning, which must be done prior to an event. You can also access this information here.
Using this plan will help you be informed of common hazards, emergencies and how you could respond to them. It provides a comprehensive recovery directory to advise you on the resources available after a single incident, or major event.
Background
The Emergency Reference Map was developed as part of the Red Cross RediCommunities risk and asset mapping project and was developed in partnership with the community. In late 2023, the Red Cross funding ceased, and the project was delivered by Council in collaboration with community. It was funded by Emergency Recovery Victoria flood recovery funding.
This CEMP is designed to work with the Emergency Reference Map as a simple tool to prepare and respond to all stages of an emergency. Response and Recovery agencies and services were instrumental in developing the plan and we thank them for their guidance.
