Tiny Towns Projects
In 2024, we successfully secured funding through Regional Development Victoria’s Tiny Towns Fund for three projects within Indigo Shire.
The Tiny Towns Fund supports local communities to deliver quality tourism and community facility projects, such as splash parks and bike trails, playgrounds, community hall and library upgrades and public art. Grants of between $5,000 and $50,000 were available and towns with populations below 5,000 people were eligible to apply.
The three projects we secured funding for are as follows.
Allans Flat Waterhole Enhancements
Installation of a new shelter and picnic table
The Allans Flat Waterhole is a beloved natural environment that provides a place for community gatherings, getting active and immersing yourself in nature. This project will significantly improve the amenity and accessibility of the site, allowing more community members to enjoy its natural beauty.

This extension will cater for the growing number of children and young people in the Wahgunyah community, and greatly enhance the playground experience by increasing the number of play elements available.
Total budget: $66,903
Grant funding: $50,000
Council funding: $16,903
Details and status: We've appointed a contractor, with onsite works expected to commence in late summer. We're also planning additional improvements to the Railway Reserve over the summer including car park resurfacing works, drainage improvements, a new concrete footpath linking the shelter/ toilet facilities to the pump track, water bubbler installation and new bins. These works will mostly be funded through our operational maintenance budget.
There will likely be some disruption to the public accessing the playground and pump track while these works get underway, and we'll provide updates via YOUR INDIGO and our Facebook page.
