We're seeking community feedback, via submissions, on a proposal to close a laneway at Conness Street, Chiltern.

Council gives public notice under Section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989, that it intends to remove vehicular access to the unnamed laneway between Conness Street and Greens Lane, Chiltern. The proposal is that Council removes vehicular access by placing one permanent bollard at the Conness Street end of the lane, and one removable bollard at the Greens Lane end of the lane

Background

This laneway connects Conness Street, Chiltern and Greens Lane, Chiltern, running between commercial properties. A motor vehicle collision with the business at 54 Conness Street, Chiltern in early 2023 saw the laneway closed while building repairs were underway. During this time, there was community sentiment expressed for the laneway to be closed to vehicles permanently. Initial community engagement gave support to the proposed permanent closure of the lane to vehicular traffic.

Key Features

Proposed lane closure features:

  • Permanent closure to vehicular traffic
  • One permanent bollard will be placed at the Conness Street end of the laneway, and another removable bollard at the Greens Lane end of the laneway
  • Laneway will remain open to pedestrians, cyclists, and other foot traffic

Provide your feedback

Submissions on this proposal can be emailed to info@indigoshire.vic.gov.au. Should any person making a submission wish to appear in person, or be represented by a person, at a meeting to be heard, please state this intention in your submission.

Feedback closes 5pm, Saturday 6 December 2025.
