About this project
We upgraded the Kergunyah Memorial Hall by building a new hall wing, kitchen, side stage access and store areas and making accessibility improvements.
Why was this project undertaken?
The Kergunyah Hall plays a vital role in providing a space for community members of all ages to gather and connect. The upgrade brought the facility in line with accessibility standards and improved the kitchen to cater for large community events.
How was it funded?
This project was funded through joint Federal and State Government grant funding to support communities impacted by the 2019/20 bushfires.

Scope of works
The upgrade encompassed the partial demolition of service areas within the hall to make way for a new expansion on the west side of the main hall space, and a modern kitchen and pantry at the rear of the expansion. In line with a commitment to preserving the hall's heritage, all original windows and internal lining boards were repurposed in the redevelopment to maintain the hall's unique character.
All of the proposed new building area was also designed to be at the same floor level of the existing hall to provide universal access.
The new kitchen was designed in consultation with the hall committee and provides adequate amenity to cater in times of crisis and for community events that are a key part of the Kergunyah community.
What happened and when?
Council awarded the contract for the upgrades to Barton St Developments at its September 2023 meeting.
Site works commenced in early November 2023 and the upgrade was completed in July 2024.
