As part of the implementation of Indigo Shire Council's Active Indigo Recreation Plan 2018-2026, the Get Active Indigo Grants Program was created and supports community groups, clubs and organisations to deliver fun, inclusive and innovative activities that help people of all ages and abilities get active, connected and involved in their local community.

Each year, Council provides funding to support projects that encourage physical activity, social participation and community wellbeing across Indigo Shire.

What the program supports

The program funds a wide range of activities, including (but not limited to):

  • Come‑and‑try days and open events
  • Programs that encourage participation for beginners
  • Activities that support older adults, young people or under‑represented groups
  • Initiatives that promote gentle movement, social connection and community wellbeing
  • Training or skill‑building opportunities that help people get active in new ways
  • Past funded projects have included orienteering programs, croquet activities, triathlon training for kids, and multigenerational open days designed to encourage movement and connection.

Funding available

A total pool of $30,000 is available with grants of up to $5,000 being awarded.

Funding is assessed using the guidelines as provided in the Documents section of this page.

Who can apply

The program is open to:

  • Community groups
  • Sporting clubs
  • Not‑for‑profit organisations
  • Local committees and volunteer‑run groups

Applicants must be based in, or delivering activities within, Indigo Shire.

Why this program matters

The Get Active Indigo Grants Program helps bring community‑led ideas to life. Last year, 11 local groups received funding to deliver activities that boosted participation, supported wellbeing and created new opportunities for people to get moving.

As one past recipient shared:

"The Indigo Get Active Grant helped our club to purchase much needed training equipment for our Auskick and Net Set Go participants - all 82 of them! This new equipment meant we were able to run much more effective training sessions and develop a broader range of skills with our little sporting stars. We're extremely thankful for the support and it's already making a huge difference for our kids."
