Consultation has concluded
Introduction
We invited community members to review and make submissions on our draft Fair Access Policy.
The Fair Access Policy seeks to address known barriers and provide fair access for all in ourcommunity sports infrastructure. The policy aims to progressively build the capacity and capabilities ofCouncil in the identification, and elimination of systemic causes of gender inequalityin policy, programs, communications, and delivery of services in relation to community sportsinfrastructure.
The purpose of the policy is to support Council to take positive action towardsachieving gender equity in the access and usage of community sports infrastructure. This complieswith the Gender Equality Act 2020 and aligns with Active Indigo Strategy, Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan and Council Plan.
The draft policy was developed with guidance from the Victorian Government - Office for Women in Sport and Recreational and the local regional sports assembly - Sport North East.
The Policy Statement
Sport is a highly visible and valued feature of Indigo Shire and our community’s culture and identity. The sport and active recreation sector provides opportunities for enriching our communities through the promotion of respect, fair mindedness, and inclusion for all people, while also supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of all Victorians. As the closest level of Government to the community, Indigo Shire Council is well positioned to design and implement place-based, integrated action plans that progress gender equality in community sport.
This policy establishes the expectation that gender equality is considered and prioritised in all current and future Council planning, policy, service delivery and practice as they relate to community sports infrastructure.
