Consultation has concluded

In July 2024, we invited community members to review and make submissions on our draft Climate Change Policy 2024.

The draft policy articulates Indigo Shire Council’s position on and response to climate change and has been updated in consultation with Council staff and the Indigo Environment Advisory Committee.

The draft policy is a refresh of the current policy which was adopted in 2019.

While the essential elements of the policy have not changed from 2019 to 2024, the wording has been tightened to better reflect Council’s current position and progress, including Council’s Climate Emergency Declaration (2019) and Emissions Reduction Plan (2021).

Proposed changes

There has been no change to the purpose or scope of the Policy.

The proposed changes include:

  • The draft policy has taken into account recent developments in legislation and climate science.
  • The wording of the guiding principles has been adjusted to better reflect Council’s progress toward an embedded shift in the way we do business. While not diverging from the intent of the 2019 policy principles, each of the guiding principles listed have been revised to be directly linked to commitments and actions being taken by Council.

What did we hear?

No submissions were made during the On Exhibition period. The policy was adopted by Council at the 27 August 2024 Meeting.
