The 2025/26 Community Sustainability Grant round has now closed. This page will be updated when the 2026/27 round opens.

The Community Sustainability Grants Program supports local groups and organisations to take meaningful action on climate change, environmental protection and long‑term community resilience. Now in its fifth year, the program helps build capacity for renewable energy, energy efficiency, biodiversity and climate‑focused initiatives across Indigo Shire.

What the program supports

Funding is available for a wide range of sustainability projects, including:

  • Renewable energy installations (e.g., solar PV, batteries)
  • Energy‑efficiency upgrades for community facilities
  • Projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Biodiversity and habitat restoration
  • Climate resilience and flood‑recovery initiatives
  • Educational events and community awareness programs

Past projects have included solar installations at community facilities, battery systems to improve resilience during outages, native vegetation restoration and climate‑focused education programs.

Funding available

A total pool of $21,230 is available each year, with:

  • Grants of up to $5,000 for energy‑efficiency or emissions‑reduction initiatives
  • Grants of up to $10,000 for capital improvement projects

Who can apply

The program is open to:

  • Community groups
  • Not‑for‑profit organisations
  • Volunteer committees and local associations

Projects must be delivered within Indigo Shire and demonstrate clear environmental or climate‑resilience benefits.

Why this program matters

These grants empower local organisations to lead the way in sustainability. As one past recipient shared, funding can be transformative — reducing operating costs, improving resilience and contributing to a more sustainable future for the whole community. Council is proud to support groups who are driving positive environmental change for generations to come.

How to apply

Details will be shared when the grants program opens for this year.
