Consultation has concluded

Introduction

We sought community feedback on the draft CEO Employment and Remuneration Policy, which guides the recruitment, appointment, performance monitoring, and remuneration of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

This policy ensures transparency, good governance, and compliance with the Local Government Act 2020, which requires all councils to have a CEO Employment and Remuneration Policy in place.

Background

Under Section 45 of the Local Government Act 2020, councils are required to adopt and maintain a CEO Employment and Remuneration Policy that outlines:

  • The recruitment and appointment process for the CEO.
  • CEO performance monitoring and review mechanisms.
  • The CEO’s remuneration structure and contract conditions.
  • The responsibilities of the CEO Employment and Remuneration Committee in overseeing these processes.

The policy was first adopted in 2021 and is now undergoing a scheduled review to ensure it reflects legislative requirements, best-practice governance, and community expectations. Key updates include greater clarity on remuneration decisions, recruitment processes, performance review criteria, and dispute resolution mechanisms.

What can the community influence?

Given this is a legislative requirement there is little that the community can influence, however there may be opportunity for clarity on items or wording for greater transparency.

Submissions

Submissions on the draft policy could be made via email to Carla Hanlon, Executive Manager People & Governance, at info@indigoshire.vic.gov.au by 5:00 PM on 28 March 2025.
