The historic Burke Museum will have a part roof replacement and box gutter upgrades to address risks of water ingress in increasing intense storm cells.

Council is making a significant financial contribution to fund these works.

Why is the project being undertaken?

The Burke Museum has had recent water ingress issues with some short-term repairs and measures undertaken; however, it now needs adequate long-term repairs to protect the significant building and collections housed within.

Design and Documentation

A suitably qualified and experienced Heritage Architect will be engaged to prepare tender and construction documentation to address the issues.

Construction

The likely scope of work for construction will be:

  • Demolition and disposal of existing materials as required
  • Enlarge & realign box gutters and discharge points, one at each end
  • Replace roof cladding
  • Reinstall affected services equipment on the roof to appropriate standard

How is it being funded?

Council’s Capital Works Budget - $180,000

    The temporary storage shipping container has arrived and will be prepared to house historical items from the museum in a climate controlled space.
