Beechworth Skate Park Revitalisation

Help design new artwork for the Beechworth Skate Park and leave your mark on this community space!
Indigo Shire youth aged 10-20 are invited to register now for the Design x Skate x Create workshop series.
Project background
The Beechworth Skate Park Revitalisation Project will deliver a professionally executed artwork that transforms a recreational space into a culturally vibrant environment reflecting local youth vision and creativity. Through a creative workshop series led by mural artist Chris Henderson, local young people will engage in designing and installing artwork for Beechworth Skate Park.
Funded in part through Tourism North East as part of the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail Enhancements Project, this revitalization initiative combines community asset renewal with creative industries learning pathways for Indigo Shire youth. The project's physical outcome—new artwork designed through community consultation—represents just one aspect of its broader community impact.
By engaging young people aged 10-20 in collaborative design alongside a professional artist, the project:
builds creative skills while fostering meaningful connections between diverse youth groups
provides participants with experience in public art design, collaboration, and project development, potentially inspiring future creative pursuits.
strengthens community bonds between skaters, artists, and other young people who use the space, creating shared ownership of this public facility.
What is happening and when?
Stage 1 - Design x Skate x Create Workshops
The workshops will be held on Saturday 3 May and Saturday 10 May 2025, at the Beechworth Skate Park and Old Railway Building (U3A) meeting room. There is no cost to participate, and no previous artistic experience is required. Young people who skate, scoot, BMX, or simply want to contribute creatively are all welcome to join. You can attend either of the workshops—but we recommend attending both. Register here (Adult registration required)
Stage 2 - Installation
Installation will take place from Monday 19 May through Friday 30 May. The skate park facilities will be closed during this time.
