Thanks to grant funding through the 2024 TAC Local Government Grant program, we have now completed construction of a new pedestrian crossing to improve safety outside the Barnawartha Primary School.

Project background

The Barnawartha community has long prioritised safety improvements outside Barnawartha Primary School. To address this need, we successfully secured funding through the 2024 TAC Local Government Grant Program, which specifically targets pedestrian and cyclist safety on Council-managed roads. The program requires matching contributions, meaning Council will fund the remaining 50% of the project costs.

The project will see the existing school crossing on Barnawartha-Howlong Road, upgraded to a raised wombat crossing, significantly enhancing safety for students and families.

What is happening and when?

Works were carried out during the September school holidays with the crossing ready for the commencement of Term 4.
