About this project

Our annual gravel road re-sheeting program will commence in November 2026 as part of our Capital Works Program to maintain and improve the Shire's unsealed road network.

The program will see approximately 15km of gravel roads re-sheeted in the western area of Indigo Shire and a further 10km in the eastern area, helping provide safer and more reliable roads for residents, visitors and freight operators. Works include placing and compacting new gravel, grading road surfaces and improving roadside drainage where required.

Gravel for the project will be sourced from Council's Horseshoe Quarry, supporting the ongoing maintenance of more than 1,000km of unsealed roads across the Shire.

Why was this project undertaken?

With over 1,000km of unsealed gravel roads across Indigo Shire, over time, traffic, weather and drainage impacts cause gravel road surfaces to deteriorate, reducing ride quality and road performance.

The annual re-sheeting program renews the road surface by applying and compacting fresh gravel, improving driving conditions, drainage and the long-term durability of the road network.

How was it funded?

These works are funded through our Capital Works Program.
